the national museum of computing

I had a work visit to the NMOC at Bletchley Park this week.

Astounding place, I really was quite….. astounded. Obviously seeing a working Colossus machine in action was brilliant and seeing it in the same place the first one was in the war really brings it home just how amazing the team were who worked on the project.

What was really amazing was seeing an ICL ME29, this was the same system that I worked on in my first IT job 22 years ago.

Amazing to think that my phone has far more computing power and storage than this lot (and it can make phonecalls, play films and use GPS to find my way home!).

There were a few other interesting things there..
